I was 5 or 6 years old. My mom was unemployed at the time and using food stamps. She surprised my brother and I at our grandparents house, we were living, with bags of "forbidden" foods. We got pudding cups, juice, cookies, and such. She also knitted us a long winter scarf and matching hats. My scarf looked like a peppermint stick, it was white and red colorblock.
