One of my favorite childhood memories was of Christmas 1977 (or 78). I was 5 or 6 years old. My mom was unemployed at the time and using food stamps. She surprised my brother and I at our grandparents house, we were living, with bags of "forbidden" foods. We got pudding cups, juice, cookies, and such. She also knitted us a long winter scarf and matching hats. My scarf looked like a peppermint stick, it was white and red colorblock. I wore that scarf until I was ten years old and I was too big for it to fit around my neck.
Brooklyn Shoe Babe- Sorry I wasn't specific enough. You have to go to B's website and leave a comment. That's a cute memory though! It was so nice of your mom to surprise you with that stuff. And I love home-made scarves!
